PlayStation Plus Isn’t One Thing Anymore
I used to think PlayStation Plus was just online play. Turns out it’s three different things now. You pick a tier based on what you actually want.

You pick a tier: Important, Extra, or Premium. Important gives online play and monthly games. Extra adds a game catalog (like) Netflix for older Sony titles.
Premium throws in classics and game trials.
Ask yourself: Do you want just online play? Or do you actually download and finish those monthly games?
Subscriptions last 1 month, 3 months, or 12 months.
The 12-month plan saves real money (no) surprise there.
Payment works with credit cards, PayPal, or prepaid cards. No weird hoops. Just enter it and go.

How to Actually Play Your PS Plus Free Games
PlayStation Plus gives you free games every month. They’re not really free forever. You just get them for as long as your subscription stays active.
I go to the PlayStation Plus tab on my dashboard. It’s right there (no) digging. You’ll see three tiers: Important, Extra, and Premium.
Important gives you two to three games a month. Extra adds a catalog of hundreds (like a Netflix for games). Premium throws in classics and time-limited trials.
You pick one tier. You don’t get all three.
You must add the games to your library before the month ends. If you forget? They vanish.
No warning. No grace period. Once added, they stay in your library.
But only while your subscription is live.
Want to play? Go to your Game Library. Find the game.
Hit Download. It installs like any other title. No extra steps.
No secret menu.

How the Game Catalog Actually Works
I signed up for PlayStation Plus Extra because I wanted more than just monthly free games.
I got tired of waiting for one title a month.
The Game Catalog is where Extra and Premium subscribers get real value. It’s not a bonus feature. It’s the main reason to pay more.
You find it in two places: the PlayStation Plus section of your console menu, or the standalone Game Catalog app. I use the app. It loads faster.
(And yes, it’s weird that Sony made a separate app for this.)
Browsing feels like scrolling Netflix. But for games. Filter by genre.
Sort by newest. Search for “RPG” or “indie” or whatever you’re in the mood for. I searched “cozy” last week and found Spirit Island.
Didn’t know it was there.
Downloading works just like buying a digital game. Select it. Hit download.
Play when it’s done. No extra steps. No weird activation keys.
Just play.
Games rotate out. Ghost of Tsushima left last month. I missed it. So now I grab stuff I might want.
Before it vanishes.
You don’t need to rush. But you should check back every few weeks. New titles drop on the second Tuesday of each month.
